Donald Trump says it is a disgrace for CNN to put out information that was so false and fake, labeling it as “Something that Nazi Germany would have done and did do. I think it’s a disgrace that information that’s false and fake and never happened got released to the public.”
Trump continues, “As far as BuzzFeed, which is a failing pile of garbage, writing it, I think they’re going to suffer the consequences, they already are. And as far as CNN going out of their way to build it up…” Trump makes a side point on the issue of inaccurate reporting, noting that a lawyer at his firm, Michael Cohen, named in the “report” as having met with Kremlin officials in Prague in August 2016, has never been to Prague and was in the United States attending a baseball game with his son at the time in question. His passport and other evidence support those claims and there are reports, which Mr. Trump alludes to, that it was a different Michael Cohen named in the fake news.
Trump describes his conversation with Cohen in which he said, “I want to see your passport. He brings his passport to my office, I say, ‘Hey wait a minute, he didn’t leave the country, he wasn’t out of the country.’ They had, ‘Michael Cohen of the Trump organization was in Prague. It turned out to be a different Michael Cohen. It’s a disgrace what took place, it’s a disgrace and I think they ought to apologize to start with to Michael Cohen.”
Immediately, as Mr. Trump is calling on another reporter to ask a question, CNN’s Jim Acosta begins shouting at the President-elect, “Since you’re attacking us can you give us a question? Mr. President elect, since you are attacking our news organization can you give us a chance. You are attacking our news organization can you give us a chance to ask a question, sir?”
Trump continued, talking over the unruly CNN reporter, saying, “No, not you. Your organization is terrible. Your organization is terrible. Quiet, quiet, she’s asking a question, don’t be rude. Don’t be rude. Don’t be [rude]. No, I’m not going to give you a question. I’m not going to give you a question. You are fake news.”
The reporter continues to ask her question, about Russia sanctions and the push by Lindsey Graham for more, with CNN’s Acosta illustrating the irrelevance and the low esteem in which fake news purveyors are held by this incoming Trump administration. Now Acosta knows what it’s like to work for Univision.
