Jared Kushner, the husband of Donald Trump’s daughter Ivanka, will be a member of the Trump administration in an official capacity, as a senior advisor inside the White House to the president.
The announcement and position was expected, as Kushner has been acting in an advisory role in key areas of the campaign and since. The reporter describes him as having played a large role in getting Donald Trump elected and “really getting into the nitty-gritty in the states that really meant the difference for Donald Trump, looking at the numbers in Michigan and also Pennsylvania, Wisconsin.”
She says, “Of course, there’s been questions about some of the conflicts of interest and nepotism, anti-nepotism laws and of course we know that Jared Kushner has been working with Wilmer Hale, the law firm, to see how he can get around some of those concerns.” She reports that as things turn out, that isn’t a big concern.
His lawyers have determined the anti-nepotism laws apply not at the White House itself but only to agencies of the Federal Government. She adds, “So Jared Kushner, we know he and Ivanka have secured that house down in DC and now Jared Kushner will be in the White House, continuing to advise his father-in-law, the President-elect, Donald Trump.”
Governor Chris Christie is ruing the day he declared war on the Kushners by sending Jared’s father Charles to serve two years in prison. The sentence was accompanied by a public mocking and berating of the elder Kushner by the future New Jersey Governor.
That was shortly before Jared and Ivanka met. If only he had known how much his showboating was going to cost him later on, Christie might have taken a less hostile and publicly destructive path in the investigation and prosecution. It’s certainly inserted a major obstruction into his career path which, for a while, seemed to be, to a degree, attached to Mr. Trump. That’s not the case any longer.
