The conversation begins with Lt Col Tony Shaffer comparing a hydrogen bomb with a “run-of-the-mill atomic bomb.” Shaffer says, “simply put, it’s an order of magnitude more severe regarding explosive effects.
He describes the hydrogen bomb as a “fission/fusion two stage explosion. The Fission goes off, fusion hits in, it is an order of magnitude. Hiroshima was 15 kilotons, we’re talking about upwards of 100 to 1,000 kilotons above that. So this is a very severe, very important step forward if they’ve mastered it.”
He says, “The components look about right regarding the photographs but we just don’t know at this point.” Shaffer believe the US response needs to be a very stern, looking them square in the eye, saying, ‘This continued menacing of the allies in the region and us is not acceptable.”
Shaffer points out that “We now have to accept the fact that Hawaii, and other elements of the [Western] seaboard could be hit by a nuclear weapon and more importantly, the homeland could be hit easily by what we call an EMP, and electromagnetic pulse weapon.”
He says the course of action for the US needs to be to layout what we are not willing to accept and to then enforce it. He says the Iranians need to be held accountable for their involvement, that much of the speed with which North Korea has been able to develop their program is due to the cash Hussein Obama gave Iran.
China needs to be forced to play a bigger role in corralling Kim Jong-un, noting that we hold tremendous economic leverage that we’re not using and that a threat to return to self sufficiency and withdrawing from their customer base is an avenue that should be utilized.
It says that most importantly Kim Jong-un needs to understand that the moment he attacks any interest of the United States, which includes our allies, he and his nation will be annihilated.
