Maine RINO Susan Collins was asked by Jake Tapper if she would support a pro-life nominee to replace Supreme Court Justice Kennedy. She said she and Trump had…
With John McCain holding on to his Senate seat in Arizona so that it can be inherited by his wife through a decree by family friend and Arizona Governor Doug Ducey, the Republican margin is razor thin for one of the most important Supreme Court nominations ever. A couple of female RINOs, Murkowski of Alaska and Susan “Spud” Collins of Maine could cast the deciding vote.
The Maine Senator, who always sounds as if she just got hit by a hammer and is trying to gather herself, described an earlier meeting between herself and President Trump as him “just trying to solicit her views on the type of nominee that I was looking for.” He was likely doing that but not in order to please her with his choice but to determine if she’s a solid “no” or if there is some way he could swing her to a “yes.”
Collins wants a pro-abortion nominee, what she called respecting precedent, one that would not favor a repeal of Roe V. Wade. She doesn’t see any abortionists on the list of 25 that President Trump will be selecting from, so she’s urging him to broaden it, to adopt the position of the pro-death Democrats in order to win her support.
Tapper plays a clip from the campaign in which President Trump states that his picks for the Supreme Court would be pro-life and contrasts that to his stated posture of today in which he says he will not ask the question. If he’s been doing his homework he won’t have to, although it’s clear it will be asked by the Senators in confirmation hearings and the preliminary Senate interviews more than enough to compensate for Trump choosing not to bring it up.
Collins understands that Trump has different legal advice that may be guiding his decision not to ask the question about abortion but Tapper notes that the Supreme Court frequently overturns its own decisions and it could happen now. She then goes off on a tangent that she couldn’t support a nominee who favored overturning Roe V. Wade because of their judicial philosophy.
That’s a Democrat spinning her doubletalk, regardless of what letter follows her name on a ballot. How is it the most unattractive candidate in every way still find their way into important positions? The people of Maine must be sympathetic to a fault, one that’s now impacting all of us.
