The worst Trump cabinet selection is undoubtedly Jeff Sessions as AG. He may well be the tool the Democrats use to impeach the President, hiding their crimes through inaction…
President Trump has grown weary of Jeff Sessions screwing off while he’s being paid to do a job. He’s no pit bull at a time we really need one – nobody is intimidated by a boot-licking puppy. That’s especially true when the boots the puppy is licking are those of the very people he’s supposed to be prosecuting.
Rep Peter King says opening an investigation is “totally the right thing to do.” As usual, the devil is in the details and this is a half measure by Sessions, an apparent means by which he can drag this thing out past the midterms and provide cover for the Democrats until they’re able to pick up seats and quash it altogether.
Inspector General investigations and reports do not move quickly and there’s still that matter of Hillary Clinton, Comey and countless other investigations that Sessions is ignoring. It’s understandable that President Trump would be angry at his rogue AG refusing to do his job.
Expressing that frustration in no uncertain terms, President Trump tweeted earlier, “Why is A.G. Jeff Sessions asking the Inspector General to investigate potentially massive FISA abuse. Will take forever, has no prosecutorial power and already late with reports on Comey etc. Isn’t the I.G. an Obama guy? Why not use Justice Department lawyers? DISGRACEFUL!” [[VIDEO BELOW]]
Rep King adopts a more nuanced approach to the situation than the President. He’s got that luxury as his Congressional seat is secure and it is President Trump, not King, who faces impeachment if the Democrats take back the House.
King says, “I have great regard for Jeff Sessions. I understand where the President’s coming from and I do think the Inspector General’s investigation is important but I can also see why, to me there’s no reason why the Department of Justice can’t do its own parallel investigation.” King notes that Inspector General Horowitz has always done a good job “but it can take time.”
King is right about the foot-dragging of Sessions. At a minimum, whether he’s a dirty cop or just feckless, he has no sense of urgency or appreciation for the necessity to get things done in a timely manner. He was perfectly suited for the Senate because that’s how they operate – nothing gets done. Things are supposed to be different at the DOJ and would be if we had an aggressive Attorney General who would go after his swamp-mates. The Democrats are counting on running out the clock so they can cover up their corruption and Sessions is helping them drag things out.
Right now, Jeff Sessions is Hillary Clinton, Hussein Obama, Rod Rosenstein, James Comey and Andrew McCabe’s best friend and ally. Whether it’s deliberate or incompetence doesn’t really effect the result. The bad guys will win and he’ll be the reason. Sessions is the one preventing justice from being served. He’s letting them get away with their crimes.
Why is A.G. Jeff Sessions asking the Inspector General to investigate potentially massive FISA abuse. Will take forever, has no prosecutorial power and already late with reports on Comey etc. Isn’t the I.G. an Obama guy? Why not use Justice Department lawyers? DISGRACEFUL!
