Reid and Schumer were making the case back in 2013 that Senate obstructionism was a bad thing and that all presidents, real citizens or foreigners like Obama, are…
With the obstructionist Senate Democrats opposing the nomination of Mike Pompeo as Secretary of State at a time when there are serious international issues that demand the attention of a capable professional on all sides, and with Mike Pompeo being a very capable individual, it’s interesting to listen to how Democrats addressed the issue when it was Hussein Obama’s choices that needed approval. In November of 2013, Democrats voted by a margin of 52 to 48, along party lines, to ban the use of the filibuster to prevent nominees from being confirmed. At the time Majority Leader Harry Reid derided Republicans for “blocking nominees” in the pursuit of unrelated legislative goals.
He said, “For the first time in the history of our republic, Republicans have routinely used the filibuster to prevent President Obama from appointing an executive team and from appointing judges. The need for change is so, so very obvious. It’s clearly visible. It’s manifest we have to do something to change things.” It’s unfortunate that he was able to get so many activist judges through the system as a result.
Chuck Schumer had a little something to say on the topic as well. With Dirty Harry by his side, sleazeball Schumer attempted to make the Democrat case to the American people. He described what they did as modifying the rules, saying, “We haven’t ripped them up. We’ve modified them in ways that can make things work.”
“Who in America doesn’t think a president, Democrat or Republican, deserves his or her picks for who should run the agencies? Nobody,” said Schumer, answering his own question. Apparently that answer is different now that the Republicans are theoretically in power, as virtually every Democrat, including sleazy Senator Schumer, is lining up in opposition to Pompeo.
Republicans needed one Democrat to vote in favor for Pompeo to squeeze through into the Secretary of State position he has been nominated for. It’s tight, not because of Pompeo’s lack of credentials, but because Democrats are playing politics with national security and opposing anything President Trump does or needs.
President Trump has probably secured that one potential vote, enough to clear the threshold, with Sen Rand Paul not supporting his appointment and John McCain at home, unable to serve but still tying up a valuable seat. Fortunately for America, Heidi Heitkamp is running for reelection in North Dakota, which went solidly for Trump in 2016.
She needs every bit of goodwill she can muster to extract another term. Voting in favor of Pompeo will help her chances, so she’s breaking ranks with the voting bloc Democrats.
Hypocrisy is nothing new or unusual for Democrats or Chuck Schumer but that doesn’t make it any less despicable or unpatriotic. It’s how they work, a “benefit” of having zero integrity and caring nothing about the United States.
