At least the meeting between the Russians and Americans demonstrated there is one point of mutual agreement between United States Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and his counterpart, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. They both seem to share a dislike for the rude, entitled, leftist MSNBC hag, Andrea Mitchell.
As the meeting was coming to order, with Foreign Minister Lavrov and Secretary Tillerson taking their seats, can be heard in her customary, “I’m special, I’m different, I belong here and you’ll just have to put up with me” style of “journalism,” arrogantly shouting questions to the principals in the meeting.
First she acts Foreign Minister Lavrov something about the White House position on Syria and, upon being ignored quickly throws something in the face of his American counterpart, asking, “Mr. Secretary, the Russians don’t believe the intelligence. How confident are you Mr. Secretary…”
An obviously annoyed Lavrov asks a couple of questions of his own, directed at Mitchell. He interrupted her, asking, “Who was bringing you up? Who was giving you your manners, you know?” That brought a smile from the gentleman seated to his right, who may have been wondering the same thing and suspected it wasn’t going to fly with Lavrov.
We recall when Mitchell became indignant that she was ignored by Secretary Tillerson when he was hosting the Ukraine Foreign Minister, shouting questions about China and North Korea as his staff members were forced to physically usher her out, politely but firmly, and she attempted an end run around them.
She later went on her broadcast on MSNBC with her beak still fully disheveled and out of place, whining about the way the State Department is being run now being a deviation from the way it’s been done since Eisenhower.
Lavrov didn’t get an answer to his question but he clearly already knew all he cared or needed to know. He just wanted her to shut up and that desire may have been the only common ground our two nations’ chief diplomats were able to find throughout their tense discussions. Perhaps it’s a foundation to build on.
