Philippines President Duterte put the UN on notice Friday that he’s had enough of them sticking their self-righteous noses into the affairs of his nation. The UN has…
Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte is staunchly independent and demands the same for his nation, eschewing efforts by the UN and previously Hussein Obama to stick their busybody noses into the affairs of his nation.
In a speech on Friday upon his return from a visit to China, Duterte warned the UN International Criminal Court, and its prosecutor Fatou Bensouda, a Gambian lawyer not to set their meddling feet on Filipino soil. They UN is attempting to insert themselves into Duterte’s no-nonsense war on drugs and drug dealers.
He reminded the court and the UN of his position, that they have no jurisdiction in the Philippines and therefore no authority to investigate him or his efforts to rid his nation of its drug scourge. He warned them not to interfere, asking, “If we are not members of the treaty, why are you f****** in this country? You cannot exercise any proceedings here without basis. That is illegal and I will arrest you.”
Recently, under President Duterte the Philippines exited the Rome Statute, the treaty which established the ICC. The withdrawal becomes effective one year after the official notification. The UN is attempting to utilize that one year cushion as a means for getting their hooks into President Duterte, on behalf of the leftist globalists which litter the UN and for whom he has complete and utter disdain.
Duterte insists that the Philippines was never a member of the ICC. He stated, “There is no basis at all because we were never—the Philippines was not ever, ever a member of that ICC for the reason that there was no publication.”
It is the position of the Duterte administration that the claimed membership in the Rome Statute, granting foreign intrusion into the affairs of the Philippines, is not enforceable as it was never published in the Official Gazette. The UN disputes that publication in the Official Gazette is a requirement to enforce a treaty, citing jurisprudence and Philippine guidelines.
The UN can make their arguments until they are blue or purple in the face, it won’t matter. If President Duterte says the Philippines isn’t in the treaty and that Bensouda would be arrested if she conducts her investigation, she’d best take the man at his word. Arresting and jailing a phony globalist usurping his rights as a the President of a sovereign nation is the kind of thing that he would enjoy greatly.
Duterte stated, “At hindi ako matatakot, I said, you can never call me to the International Criminal Court simply because your position is flawed. It cannot be corrected anymore.”
The notification letter stating their withdrawal from the Rome Statute stated, “The Government remains resolute in effecting its principal responsibility to ensure the long-term safety of the nation in order to promote inclusive national development and secure a decent and dignified life for all.”
The Philippines characterized the decision to withdraw as a “principled stand against those who politicize and weaponize human rights.”
