We can hope it’s just another one of Obama’s pink lines in the sand being drawn, a statement made for domestic consumption that is never intended to be acted upon. After all, it is rather late in his term to be sabre-rattling or deciding to go to war with Russia over a false accusation that they tried to keep Hillary Clinton from being elected.
Obama, of all people, should not be portraying himself as having clean hands in the arena of foreign election interference and is the last person who should be adopting a holier than thou stance. Surely Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu finds the hypocrisy of Obama’s selective outrage to be noteworthy.
While there is no proof and the CIA has refused to testify before Congress to provide information to substantiate the anonymous declaration of Russian involvement, the public is finally coming around to the idea that the WikiLeaks information was leaked, not hacked, that it was provided by someone who had been given access by the Clinton camp and that Russia had nothing to do with it beyond being a simple target of the manipulative Clinton campaign.
It’s consistent that one of such low moral and ethical standards as Hillary Clinton would risk world war in the interest of salvaging her political career. That, along with profiteering and corruption, were the legacy of her time as Secretary of State, as she demonstrated vividly in Libya.
In an interview with NPR, Obama said, “I think there is no doubt that when any foreign government tries to impact the integrity of our elections that we need to take action and we will, at a time and place of our own choosing.
That could be his way of messaging that he’s not going to do anything, that the time and place don’t exist, that they’ve once again overplayed their hand and there’s nothing to be gained by continuing to cling to the now crumbling allegations.
It’s better to talk tough and walk away, leaving it for the reality of passing time to once again identify him as the empty suit that he is, particularly in matters of foreign affairs.
