Intel Committee chairman Nunes, long frustrated by the cover up at DOJ and the FBI, warned that those days are over and “there will be hell to pay” this week if they…
Maria Bartiromo questions House Intelligence Committee chairman Devin Nunes about the results of the meeting he, Speaker Ryan, Trey Gowdy and Bob Goodlatte had with FBI and DOJ leadership last Friday. She characterizes the agreement reached as “they are going to deliver all of the documents that are left to be delivered to you by next Friday, asking what happens if it’s more of the same and nothing happens. Nunes clarifies that the deadline isn’t next Friday, it’s Monday for the production to begin and Friday for it to be completed. If documents are forthcoming Monday and Tuesday, with “a clear way and path forward for everything else is not clear, here, in the next couple of days, there’s going to be hell to pay by Wednesday morning.”
Nunes says, “It’s not just about the committee chairman any longer.” The rank and file members of Congress want him to produce for them so that they can do their jobs and that isn’t happening for reasons that this new posture addresses. He says, “This is going to go from just myself and a few committee chairmen to all of the members of the House of Representatives, who are going to begin to take action against the Department of Justice and the FBI.”
Bartiromo asks, “Taking action meaning contempt of Congress?” Nunes explains that’s just one of the many options, “but I can tell you that it’s not going to be pretty.” He says while they can’t force Rosenstein, Wray or even Sessions to resign, they can hold them in contempt, pass sense of Congress resolutions, and impeach.
Nunes says he thinks they’re getting close to the point of impeaching DOJ officials, saying, “If they don’t have good reasons why they haven’t provided us this information, the American people’s patience has run out, my patience have run out. I think the Speaker of the House and chairman Gowdy gave them every opportunity to try to clear all of this up.”
“And there’s just no time left anymore,” says Nunes, “it just looks like they’re trying to run out the clock, as I’ve said many times on your show.” Bartiromo clarifies, asking, “You’re willing to go all the way, you’re willing to move to impeachment of the leadership of DOJ and the FBI.”
Nunes confirms, saying, ‘Absolutely, yep. I’ve been there for a while now.”
