Rep Devin Nunes joined Bill O’Reilly on his program to discuss the events taking place with the House Intelligence Committee. O’Reilly opens with a question as to why FBI Director Comey and NSA Director Rogers are not appearing before the House Intelligence Committee as they were requested.
O’Reilly notes that their refusal to cooperate, asking “Why are these guys not showing up?” Nunes says, “We hope that they’ll show up in the future, we don’t know why exactly that they didn’t want to show up today.”
The reason that Rep Nunes is fully aware of and that he’s not willing to state for political reasons is because the hearings were going to be conducted behind closed doors. Comey and Rogers lose their shield of not answering by virtue of the public setting. They’d really have to provide answers that could make them look bad an possibly even be incriminating.
Nunes states that he wanted to set the foundation for the investigation, that the questioning of others, such as Clapper, Brennan and Yates would then build upon. He agrees with O’Reilly that Comey and Rogers should have given them a reason for not showing up, but that they should have done a better job of pinning them down by inviting them on the record during the last hearing, in front of the American people.
He says the NSA is cooperating, getting them information in a timely manner. Then there’s the obstructionist FBI. He says his committee has been looking into questions about Russia for a year, and that continues. The new information about the surveillance and leaks are also now getting considerable attention.
He says the new information that came forward last week has nothing to do with Russia and everything to do with whether or not “Americans were masked properly or in fact unmasked, and I’m very concerned about that.”
O’Reilly gives his theory on what happened when the information was obtained and in the time since, quite accurately it appears, with a final point raised being the effort of Rep Adam “Shifty” Schiff to have him removed as chairman of the committee. He says he’s sure the Democrats do want him to quit because he’s a threat to them. Nunes is staying put, and he’s going to keep investigating, Shifty.
