NFL commissioner Roger Goodell was given 5 more years to finish off the league by the owners, who are either stupid or have a death wish for their business. Failure is rewarded
The geniuses who own the NFL haven’t had enough with their league in a free fall, they want more Roger Goodell and now that’s apparently what they’re going to get and for some bizarre reason are willing to pay big money for.
One could easily make the argument that had they not had a commissioner at all the league’s situation would be much better than the nightmare conditions that Goodell has led them into.
Charlie Gasparino broke the news on Fox Business channel that the NFL has extended Roger Goodell’s contract for five years, provided the league survives that long under his mismanagement.
He says the spin will be that the “only” guarantee that Goodell gets is his $3.5 million dollars per year in salary, noting that there are many times that amount in incentives, as high as nearly $50 million per year. [[VIDEO BELOW]]
Gasparino says the original plan, had Fox not broken the story ahead of time, was to make an official announcement at next week’s owners meeting in Dallas, rubbing the nose of Cowboys owner Jerry Jones’ in their distasteful, divisive and devastating for the league, decision.
Gasparino says that his understanding is that Goodell got “most of what he wanted. I believe he still gets the plane.” Just like in the US government, the quickest path to financial success seems to be failing in one’s responsibilities.
Gasparino calls it a defining moment in the NFL, with Jerry Jones attempting to lead a coup against Goodell by allying himself with like-minded owners who wanted Goodell gone. That effort failed, so now it will be the league that may be gone before Goodell’s contract expires, as likely will he.
It won’t matter by then, the only thing entertaining about the NFL these days is watching their blatant anti-Americanism cost them their existence. At this point, their survival would be a serious let down.
Once the financial avalanche of millions of Americans removing the NFL from their lives takes its toll, Goodell will be lucky to get a job selling bobble-heads. Maybe Soros could bring him to the home office, working for the Open Society Foundation, or at the UN.
