(CNSNews) – Bruce Ohr, a high-ranking Justice Department official, has been called into a closed-door hearing of the House Judiciary and Oversight Committees Tuesday to discuss his role as a conduit for opposition research on Donald Trump to reach the FBI. Ohr’s wife Nellie worked for Fusion GPS, the firm that hired former British spy Christopher Steele to produce the salacious dossier on Donald Trump. The Clinton campaign and the Democrat National Committee paid for the opposition research through a law firm.
The FBI fired Steele as an informant in 2016 for telling a reporter he was working with the FBI on the dossier. Bruce Ohr apparently continued to funnel information from Steele to the FBI after Steele was fired. Appearing with Sean Hannity Monday night, conservative talk-show host and legal scholar Mark Levin said he views Bruce Ohr as a “mole.”
He’s on the staff of the deputy attorney general of the United States, first Sally Yates and then Rod Rosenstein. There’s a ton of questions this man needs to be asked because he seems to be the center of the wheel.
And that is, what role or roles did he play in the production of this dossier? His relationship with Fusion GPS where his wife worked, his relationship with Christopher Steele, the full extent of it is what we need to know because he clearly was a back channel for opposition research there in the United States Department of Justice.
I want people to remember, the FBI director is gone. He’s a leaker, he was fired. The deputy FBI director is gone, he’s under criminal investigation. Mr. Strzok, who was head of counter-intelligence operations, he was fired. Did you ever see anything like this before?
Now, in the deputy attorney general’s office you have a guy who was colluding with the former British spy, a foreigner, to affect our affect our election — whose wife just happens to be working for the opposition research outfit funded by Hillary Clinton and the DNC.
Stick with me because it’s very simple, and they’re the ones that colluded with Russia. So the question is, not only what was his role, who did he communicate with at the FBI? Who did he communicate with at the Department of Justice?
What did he tell Sally Yates? What did he tell Rod Rosenstein? Did he talk to (former CIA Director John) Brennan, did he talk to (former Director of National Intelligence James) Clapper? Did he talk to the White House? Every single person — what media outlets did he potentially speak to? We need to know that, too.
This is all very, very important — and any members of Congress did he talk to? Did he talk to (former Senate Majority Leader Harry) Reid, did he talk to (Rep.) Adam Schiff? Did he talk to any of these people? And who provided what information to whom on this dossier? Was he behind the scenes, prodding along, to make sure the application was written the way they wanted it to (be written), to go to the FISA court?
What we will be watching tomorrow is the Democrat Party. The Democrat Party is the obstruction party. Almost anarchist. They do not care if the Department of Justice was lawless. They do not care that the senior level of the FBI wiped itself out. They’ve been defending them, they’ve been special leaders for lawlessness. That’s the question.
For the record, the New York Times is running a defense of Bruce Ohr in Tuesday’s edition. The piece is titled, “Bruce Ohr Fought Russian Organized Crime. Now He’s a Target of Trump.”
According to the article: Ohr is a “straight-shooter,” and “far from corrupt”; his acquaintance with British spy Christopher Steele stems from their shared expertise on Russia; his contacts with Steele “were one small part of a broader effort to determine whether the allegations in the dossier were true”; and the FBI was eager to see all of the reports that Steele had gathered for his dossier.
The article said that conservatives have “targeted” Nellie Ohr, “whose contract work at Fusion GPS involved monitoring Russian news media and compiling connections between Mr. Trump and Russia from public documents. She did not work on the dossier, according to a person familiar with her work for Fusion GPS.”
The Justice Department has demoted Bruce Ohr, and Ohr’s lawyer is quoted as saying: “It seems that Bruce had two sins: He met with Chris Steele and his wife worked for Fusion GPS. None of that seems wrong to me…Bruce is a straight arrow. He was totally nonpartisan, as we all were expected” to be.
