Daily Caller: Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley said he wanted to discuss political biases with reporters, even implying that they report with partiality, during a press conference Thursday afternoon with some of the Republican Judiciary members.
“What I’d like to do when we get all done, because this is almost rock bottom, I would like to have the future mending things so we can do things in a collegial way that the United States Senate ought do and particularly when it comes to Supreme Court nominations. And you folks can have something to do with this,” Grassley said.
“Now I would never use the word fake news. I consider you folks policemen for our democratic system of government. But I want to show you where some of you have bias. I have had demonstrators in my office for two weeks now, both for Kavanaugh and against Kavanaugh,” he continued. “One time the people that were for Kavanaugh wanted to be interviewed and they said, ‘we only — we are only interested in interviewing people against Kavanaugh.’ Now, is that — that’s a bias that none of you should be proud of.”
Earlier in the press conference, Grassley expressed a positive outlook towards Supreme Court justice nominee Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation.
“I feel very good about where this nomination is right now,” he said. “I don’t say that from the standpoint of counting votes. I say that from the standpoint of the qualifications of this candidate.”
The press conference took place hours after the Senate gained access to the FBI’s supplemental report into the allegations levied against Kavanaugh.
“It’s time to vote,” Grassley announced Thursday morning, after being briefed on the FBI’s report. “I’ll be voting to confirm Judge Kavanaugh.”
