Bret Baier asks Senators Charles Grassley and Lindsey Graham about a series of letters released over the course of the day which call for a second special counsel to investigate DOJ corruption. The plan, as described by Senator Grassley, is for the special counsel to be a partner with the DOJ Inspector General, that will give his office the tools it needs to conduct a thorough investigation.

The Inspector General cannot investigate individuals who are no longer employed with DOJ nor can he impanel grand juries or investigate other agencies. The Senators express their confidence in Inspector General Horowitz but want him to have the tools needed to get to the truth. They do not trust the Department of Justice to investigate itself.   [[WATCH VIDEO BELOW]]

Graham says that both he and Grassley have looked closely at the way the Clinton investigation was conducted, saying, “I’ve come away believing it was shoddily done, that there were conflicts of interest, that there was political bias that may have resulted in giving Clinton a pass.” Talk about understatements.

He continues, “The Steele dossier was paid for by the Democratic Party through Fusion GPS, Mr. Steele had a associates in Russia that could have easily compromised him and we believe the FISA warrant process was abused. And the reason we want a special counsel is I think crimes may have been committed.” He goes on to point out verified lies on the part of Steele, which he wants to understand.

Grassley points out that they started out with an investigation of Trump-Russia, and in the process of following the facts wound up with Obama DOJ corruption, what he labeled as “a lot of things done during the previous administration.”

Grassley notes having come under criticism earlier in the day from Democrats in his Judiciary Committee for having an interest in corruption that occurred in the previous administration. He explains, “Well, if there’s political interference in the Justice Department, the FBI, in one administration, and that’s what we were looking into, wouldn’t it be natural that it’s wrong in the previous administration?”

Of course it is natural and logical, but Democrats don’t care about anything other than advancing their agenda and exposing their own corruption is counterproductive to their goals.

Asked what the odds are that they’ll see a second special counsel appointed to investigate DOJ corruption, Graham says, “I will be shocked if somebody doesn’t see the inherent conflict in the Department of Justice regarding investigating itself – high probability.”

Grassley agrees, and vows, “I’m going to use as much leverage as I can and I think I have a lot to get the job done.”

  1. I would be more inclined to say “we don’t trust any of you to investigate anything.

The IG will make sure that the investigation continues as it has and contains all the Jedi mind tricks in the swamps power.

  2. well.
