Rep Trey Gowdy wants to let the IG do the job of the AG or a special prosecutor, dragging out the FISA probe for another year, past the midterms and Dems’ chance to impeach…
More than once over the past few months, and as recently as the end of January this year, Rep Trey Gowdy urged Republicans to leave Robert Mueller “the hell alone.” He’s consistent, now stating in a national television interview that he’s got a lot of confidence in the DOJ Inspector General to hold Andrew McCabe accountable for leaks. Leaks are bad enough, but they are hardly the most egregious offense by Andrew McCabe, who led an attempted coup against President Trump. Is this some attempt to minimize the offenses, setting the table for a future plea deal of some sort and the continued obstruction of justice? Gowdy sounds great sometimes but there are more than a few instances where what he’s saying just doesn’t sound right.
And it’s also worth noting that the IG has no prosecutorial powers. Why delay, bring in a special counsel and lets really get to the bottom of the whole Obama-Clinton-Soros Mafia Septic Tank. After stating his confidence in Michael Horowitz, the Inspector General, Bartiromo asks, at the 2:46 mark of the video, if AG Sessions should be looking into the matters. It should be a simple matter, since the integrity of the Justice Department hangs in the balance and it has nothing to do with the very broad recusal Sessions has been hiding behind.
Gowdy doesn’t answer, instead suggesting that the dispute between Sessions and Trump and their other communications not be done via Twitter. That might be good advice if the only intent is communication. If he’s trying to force public pressure for Sessions to act, then Twitter is the best forum other than a direct address to the American public.
Of course the answer is yes. It shouldn’t be that tough for the knowledgeable and able Gowdy to make that statement unless he has a reason why he doesn’t think Sessions should do his job. If that is the case, in that regard he and Sessions would most certainly be in agreement.
Gowdy frequently states his support for law enforcement. He should remember that law enforcement is more than a group of people assigned with that responsibility, some of them we now know to be corrupt. It is more importantly the act of carrying out that charge, the actual conduct of enforcement.
That isn’t happening with any urgency whatsoever and it appears to be by design. He certainly isn’t helping matters. IG investigations take time and then they still have to go to the DOJ for prosecution. It appears we’re being presented with a sideshow, something to occupy us until the Democrats are able to elbow themselves back into power. Why would Gowdy want to be a party to that?
