Somehow CNN managed to expand their view out their window of culpability beyond merely the fabrications of non-existent criminal acts by the Trump administration and into the actual crimes committed by Loretta Lynch, James Comey and Hillary Clinton. It was a fleeting glimpse for them, of the real obstruction of justice which took place under the Obama administration.
With Senator Dianne Feinstein in the guest chair, the substitute host, Brianna Keilar, didn’t strictly adhere to the typical Jake Tapper script of Trump/GOP bad, Clinton/Dems good and instead actually strayed into some legitimate questioning of the California Democrat. She sets up a clip by stating “Comey thinks that Lynch improperly injected politics into that investigation of Hillary Clinton’s emails.”
After playing the clip of Comey’s Senate Intelligence Committee testimony, Keilar notes, “Comey said that Lynch, uh, the request, gave him a queasy feeling. He felt it clearly, that Loretta Lynch was giving cover to the Clinton campaign. Was she?” The longtime good friend of Hillary Clinton and ranking Democrat on the Senate Judiciary Committee, Feinstein, responds, “I can’t answer that. I would have a queasy feeling too, though, to be candid with you.”
She then signals an apparent willingness to hold Senate hearings on the issue, saying, “I think we need to know more about that and there’s only one way to know about it and that’s to have the Judiciary Committee take a look at that.” Perhaps it’s just a way for her to attempt to provide cover through directing and manipulating the process, perhaps not. Chairman Grassley (R-IA) is no fool.
Keilar follows up, “So you think it is worth investigating if, in a way, this was semantic cover given to the Clinton campaign. It was clearly an investigation being described as a matter.” Feinstein responds affirmatively, “Yeah, well, this is a separate investigation we’re talking about and I don’t think we should mix the two.”
Illustrating that she is still missing the point despite finding herself stumbling closer to it, Feinstein says, “This is the total integrity of the President of the United States. This is a very big deal, Brianna. It should be all hands on deck. And everybody should welcome a second committee getting involved, particularly on the technical legal aspects of obstruction of justice.” If she were still talking about Clinton, Comey, Lynch and the pretend ‘president’ Obama, she’d be on to something. She’s not, although she may have realized she’s said too much for her own good.
Feinstein continues, saying, “and I have no doubt…” Suddenly she shifts mid sentence in what almost looks like a sloppy edit but if so, it came from the studio that way, as the same choppy conversation is also evident in the longer, full interview version here. Whatever Feinstein was going to say she has no doubt about, she, one way or another, kept those thoughts to herself. She then goes on to describe the Valentine’s Day meeting in which the supposed obstruction took place.
Certainly there’s no reason to believe that Feinstein would leave partisanship behind in the interest of doing what’s right. She’s a Democrat and, just as with the Soviet communists, the Party always comes first. Her willingness to hold hearings into the Comey – Lynch collusion with the Clinton campaign and the obstruction of justice by Lynch and Comey does raise some questions as to why she is adopting the approach she is.
Could she be tired of Clinton’s incessant blame game? Is Clinton going to next point the finger of unearned responsibility for her loss at Feinstein? Does Feinstein not want to be a party to the cover up? Does she know, from her intelligence committee position, that there is about to be a blood-letting of historic proportions involving the Democrat hierarchy and she’s trying to steer herself out of the path of the destruction? Did she acquire her own reset button?
