The Justice Department claimed Saturday it has given House Republicans a trove of documents related to the Russia investigation and the probe against former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

DOJ has partially complied subpoenas from the House Intelligence and Judiciary committees on probes related to both probes, according to a spokeswoman for House Speaker Paul Ryan. Lawmakers threatened to hold officials at the department in contempt of Congress until the documents were delivered.

“Our efforts have resulted in the committees finally getting access to information that was sought months ago, but some important requests remain to be completed,” Ryan’s spokeswoman AshLee Strong said in a statement. “Additional time has been requested for the outstanding items and based on our understanding of the process we believe that request is reasonable. We expect the department to meet its full obligations to the two committees.”

While Republicans were clamoring for the memos, Democrats were criticizing the multiple requests, suggesting the documents were designed to undermine special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into the Trump campaign’s alleged Russia ties. The DOJ also notified Republican Rep. Devin Nunes of California about a classified letter it sent the committee discussing “confidential human sources” the FBI used before beginning the probes into Russian.

Nunes, who chairs the House Intelligence panel, has been pressing the department on an informant who spoke to members of Trump’s campaign prior to the FBI’s probes. DOJ’s acting assistant director of congressional affairs, Jill Tyson, also said in the letter that Nunes asked for transcripts of discussions between confidential sources and Trump campaign officials. She said that request has been deferred to Director of National Intelligence, Dan Coats.

President Donald Trump has accused the FBI of spying on his campaign, but intelligence officials say they were simply trying to find out the scope of Russia’s attempts to influence the 2016 election. Rep. Trey Gowdy of North Carolina, meanwhile, has affirmed the FBI’s side of the story in previous media reports, telling reporters: “I am even more convinced that the FBI did exactly what my fellow citizens would want them to do when they got the information they got, and that it has nothing to do with Donald Trump.”

Tyson’s letter also said Nunes received materials related to guidelines under the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act. Republicans believe the DOJ abused FISA when prosecutors and agents in 2016 received a secret warrant from the court to monitor the communications of Trump campaign associate Carter Page.

  1. we the DEPLORABLES HAVE TO PROTECT THE PRESIDENT AND THE FEW GOOD ONES IN CONGRESS.
but SESSIONS, ROSENSTEIN, WRAY NEED TO GO, ALONG WITH ALL COMMUNIST DEMORATS AND THE RINO NEVER TRUMPERS.
oh” i know, let’s HAVE A RIP ROARING FULL BLOWN REVOLUTION, OH’ WAIT.
were already IN ONE, WE JUST HAVEN’T GOTTEN TO THE SHOOTING PART AS YET.
but i’d bet a dime to a donut that’s COMING ALSO, JUST GIVE IT TIME TO GROW.

  2. Two Russian investigative reporters, who now work for BBC Russia, exposed the Troll Factory, phony, US social media accounts in the Russian media- before the election. There were over 2,000 accounts on Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr and Instagram and all of them were printed by name. Our Intelligence community was told by Susan Rice to stand down. Why didn’t the FBI just inform the platforms and have the site’s shutdown? The Troll factory in St Petersburg was exposed as meddling in elections, by the Russian press, years before Trump declared his candidacy. The FBI will have to face the ‘music’ and just admit what they did. The Russian President is now talking, on international TV, about all of the meddling in international elections that George Soros has done and with US State Department money. It is alleged Soros groups influenced elections in 81 countries. That was proven to be true when a watchdog group, Judicial Watch, sued and obtained the information that millions in taxpayer dollars were given to push socialist candidates in various countries during the Obama Administration. Two proven meddlings by Soros to influence elections occurred in Colombia and Romania. The Romanians have expelled Soros groups and the Colombian socialist candidate for president lost to a Trump-style anti-corruption candidate.

  3. Another ultimatum come and gone last week. Also a “I’m done” moment and whack at Lyin Ryan. Stay tuned, more red lines to follow and Magic Eraser stands ready to scrub.

Additional time granted??? What the hell, they’ve had plenty of time, this is the result of 17 years of first Mueller and then Comey and Sessions, Rosenstein and his underlings are continuing this belligerence. It’s time for Congress to pull their funding of this corrupt and socialist bunch and destroy them.

This is typical – you need/request something and they give you something, it’s just NOT THE SOMETHING YOU REQUESTED. They think this will pacify you. They claim there is an on-going investigation but even if that were TRUE these congressional CHAIRMAN HAVE THE SAME SECURITY CLEARANCE AS THE FBI, hence they should be allowed to get those doc. When Wray had his press conferance on June 14th he should have come on that stage and BEEN MAD AS HELL, instead he came on, was complecent and gave a bunch of no-nothing excuses.

So another red line in the sand that they complied with by putting their big toe over the line. And of course the so called committee felt progress has been met, and since they asked for more time…..OF COURSE THEY GAVE IT….Of course they (DOJ<FBI) knew what was requested so they have had all kinds of time to get it ready. All this bull shit about contempt, etc, is just that…bull shit. Of course now the picture op that is called a investigation keeps going on and on with more red lines. Sorry but I just have to say…..what a load of crap, but it is normal for washington swamp dwellers.

  7. A limited hangout. Keep the pressure on, Devin. Don’t let them get away with their attempts at obfuscation. The stonewalling has gone on long enough.
