Lou Dobbs has a few thoughts on “the inability of Congressional leaders to deliver for this president on his agenda the first time around. The latest failure comes from Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell after he was forced to pull his bill to repeal and replace Obamacare, effectively pull it, with six Republicans now opposed to the plan, publically.”
Dobbs plays a clip of Mitch McConnell and his lieutenant, Sen John Cornyn (R-TX) standing outside the White House as McConnell offers the customary excuses for failing to perform, how he had hoped to have delivered but “they’re not quite there.” He thinks they’ve got a really good chance of getting there, it’s just going to take them “a little bit longer.” Nobody can stretch out a defeat into as many nonproductive weeks as Mitch McConnell.
Dobbs follows those comments up with what millions of Americans were likely shouting at their TV sets in unison, “Which makes you wonder, what have they been doing all this time? The Senate now plans to leave for its July 4th recess Friday, without passing a health care bill. It won’t return until the 10th of July. And of course Senate Republicans aren’t the only ones failing to deliver, House Republicans did the same. They were forced to pull their health care bill back in March after Speaker Paul Ryan failed to deliver enough votes.”
He points out, “It took until May 4th for the House to pass that bill and even then it was a close affair. All of these missteps are simply a failure of leadership on the part of both Ryan and McConnell. And once again President Trump is stepping in to negotiate a better deal after both McConnell and Ryan have failed to get it done the first time around. Summoning the Senate Republicans to meet with him at the White House today, the President doing his best to move things on.”
Dobbs observes, “Senator McConnell, Speaker Ryan, both barely hanging on to their jobs, and it’s become embarrassingly clear, the only real leader is in the White House.”
