Rep Ron DeSantis knows that Speaker Ryan is the Democrats, lobbyists and big business’ best friend when it comes to screwing us over to take care of their cronies. The omnibus…
Now that Reps Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) and Steve Scalise (R-LA), the number two and three in House leadership, have joined in the calls for a second special counsel, Lou Dobbs asks one of those who long ago voiced his recognition of that need, Rep Ron DeSantis (R-FL) how important having them onboard is to having one appointed. DeSantis says, “I applaud them for doing it,” noting they are joining a number of people in the house and a number of “very significant US Senators, including Chuck Grassley (R-IA) and Lindsey Graham (R-SC). He says, “I would call on our Speaker, Paul Ryan, to follow their lead and publicly call for the appointment of a special counsel.”
He notes, “Speaker Ryan was supportive of the appointment of Robert Mueller, I was not supportive of that, I didn’t think there was a basis for a special counsel. But if you took the position that Mueller was the way to go, just to make sure that there was nothing wrong or to investigate, well by golly gee you’ve got to support a special counsel now because we have evidence that statutes were actually violated.”
“I mean McCabe, he’ll go after an American citizen,” says DeSantis, “just a civilian if they say, give a misstatement to the FBI. But can McCabe lie to the FBI and not have anything happen? Comey has exposure for saying that he’s never been involved in leaking.
McCabe contradicted him and of course James Baker, his general counsel, was reassigned and demoted partially because he was involved in discussing the dossier with Mother Jones, a left wing magazine. So we have to follow the law here, we’ve got to follow the facts. An Inspector General’s not enough, the congressional committees, although we’ve done a lot, ultimately we’re not going to be able to bring any type of criminal charges. So yes, let’s get it done.”
Dobbs says that the silence of Speaker Ryan on this issue speaks volumes, calling him the nemesis of this President. “He tries to play a two-handed game where he gets to decide who will hold what. The fact is that he is a RINO. He is working against the President. He is representing the Business Roundtable. He is representing the Chamber of Commerce and not the American people. How much longer can the conference put up with him?”
DeSantis replies, “I think he should seize this opportunity to do exactly what you have counseled and what a number of us have counseled.” DeSantis reminds Dobbs that it is only because of the efforts of House Republicans that Sessions has done anything, all of it within the past two months. He says, “if the Speaker of the House and some of the leadership in the Senate join the call, that may push him over to where he’s finally pulling the trigger” for a truly independent, objective special counsel.
As for the omnibus bill deadline of Friday midnight, DeSantis says he thinks something will be produced that beats the deadline but that it won’t be a very good bill. He asks, “How can we keep finding ourselves in these situations, where you have a massive bill put together behind closed doors?” He hasn’t seen it yet and will likely have 48 hours or so to read it and pass it, leaving very little time for improvements, by design.
Dobbs asks the key question in all of this, “Why doesn’t somebody tell Speaker Ryan to go to hell,” noting that he represents “K” St lobbyists and “doesn’t represent Republican thinking. He’s not a conservative” and is one of the “most erratic people we’ve ever seen in the Speakership.” That was a question DeSantis chose not to answer, instead addressing the hopelessness of the Senate.
