Rep Tom Garrett believes Democrats are purposely including classified information in their memo to make it impossible for Nunes to release, so they can attack with Gotcha politics
Congressman Tom Garrett (R-VA), a member of the House Homeland Security Committee and former prosecutor, challenges the spin that is being poured out by the Democrats and their media propagandists in their effort to minimize the damage from the initial revelations about them contained in the Nunes memo.
He’s asked by Eric Shawn, “Many Democrats are saying it’s [the memo] a hit job, it’s slanted, it’s riddled with omissions and only supports the Republican narrative, so how would you respond to that?”
Garrett replies with an indictment of the Democrats and their partners in crime at the DOJ and FBI, saying, “Well, it’s a hit job when we completely disregard the 4th and 5th and 14th Amendments rights to privacy and due process, to weaponize the federal government against American citizens.”
He continues, “And I think it’s interesting Congressman Smith’s wording did not have hardly anything to do with, which concedes that it did have something to do with, the FISA memo. And if I can be a nerd for a moment, Eric, if you know Delaware V. Franks, none of this would be admissible in a court of law because they were dishonest with the tribunal of the court.”
He says, “So they were obviously wanting information in a hurry without regard to its use in a criminal court, which really adds more questions.” Asked about the relevance of Delaware V. Franks to this case of abuse, Garrett replies, “So the FISA court has to review the information presented to it by those seeking the warrant. Those seeking the warrant have a duty of candor before the tribunal…and that means they have to disclose all information that’s relevant and pertinent.”
Garrett points out, “The absolutely and positively did not do that and whether you’re going to get probable cause or not might hinge on whether or not someone had a motive to be less than honest, which obviously Mr. Steele did on multiple levels, two different paychecks and an animus towards particular American individuals”
He says, “So I think the real story here is…the weaponization of the federal government against its citizenry.” Garrett cites examples of the IRS and other previous cases known from reporting that has been verified as well as the leak to Yahoo by Christopher Steele.
Garrett has also read the Democrat memo but believes it will never be released because it was intentionally written to include classified information as a protection against being released and so that Democrats can attack Chairman Nunes for refusing to release their version, thereby making it useful as a hit piece.
Garrett says he’s waiting for Steele to be charged “for lying to Federal agents, a criminal offense in itself,” and notes that one side is quick to play gotcha “with convenient facts and disregard others.”
