Sen Cotton is trying to end one of the most egregious offenses against the American people the Obama regime is known to have inflicted, a fine for being poor…
Senator Tom Cotton appeared on Face The Nation this Sunday, with host John Dickerson questioning him on the tax plan which eliminates the asset and wealth confiscation that is the Obamacare mandate.
Dickerson took the position of the communist Democrats, not an unfamiliar stance for him, arguing that unless the rest of us are stolen from to pay for the insurance of strangers, many of whom are not even US citizens, that the insurance system see unsustainable price increases.
Of course those costs, inflated as they are due to federal involvement, already exist. They’re just masked by the confiscation of citizens’ hard earned money that is used to pay for them.
Dickerson says, “Thirteen million people will be without coverage if the individual mandate is removed,” if others are no longer forced to pay for their insurance. “What happens to those 13 million?” Cotton replies, “Well, John, remember what the hated Obamacare mandate is. It fines an American family if they can’t afford their insurance, insurance that Obamacare made unaffordable in the first place.”
He continues, “So this bill doesn’t cut a single dime from Medicaid, doesn’t cut a single dime from insurance subsidies, doesn’t change a single regulation under Obamacare. It simply says the IRS cannot fine you if you cannot afford health insurance.”
“So this has no impact,” says Cotton, “on anyone who wants to get health insurance under Obamacare’s individual exchanges or under the Medicaid expansion under their employer’s plan. It simply says that working families and poor Americans, because four out of five Americans who pay this fine make less than $50,000, will no longer be fined for not being able to afford their insurance.”
Dickerson then makes the argument that if we’re not extorted that hospital costs will increase due to emergency use and a sicker pool of people. Cotton says the answer is to repeal Obamacare, but that effort failed this year. Perhaps that won’t be the case next time around but this is an opportunity to get rid of the most hated aspect of the Democrat plan, and it’s one that should be supported.
