China Has Deployed Weapons Systems On Stolen Artificial Islands

The unsubstantiated agenda-driven talk of a Russian hack of the Clinton and DNC emails and other files continues to create a useful distraction from the real issues of wrongdoing for those Democrats and establishment globalist types inside the US. At the same time it’s precluding any discussion of the content revealed and what they were really up to it’s also providing a diversion and a similar protective cover on the foreign stage to China.

China has now placed missile systems on the islands they have systematically invaded over the past months with little more than a muffled peep from the Obama regime. Seven artificial islands have been built up, all of which belong to their neighbors in the South China Sea and all of which China has seized illegally. When a foreign power installs weapon systems and an airfield on your soil, there’s a good chance you’ve lost claim to your territory.

On Wednesday, The Asia Maritime Transparency Initiative (AMTI), a US think tank, reported that new November satellite imagery reveals what appear to be anti-aircraft and anti-missile systems on all seven of the artificial islands China has built up and developed in the South China Sea.

They noted that even in the face of the evidence the aggressor nation continues to claim that they have no intentions of militarizing the islands. Maybe those are “civilian missiles” and “research guns.” According to Reuters, “AMTI said it had been monitoring the construction of hexagonal structures on Fiery Cross, Mischief and Subi reefs in the Spratly Islands since June and July. China has already built military length airstrips on these islands.”

AMTI offered their evaluation, stating, “It now seems that these structures are an evolution of point-defense fortifications already constructed at China’s smaller facilities on Gaven, Hughes, Johnson, and Cuarteron reefs.” They added, “This model has gone through another evolution at (the) much-larger bases on Fiery Cross, Subi and Mischief reefs.”

Anti-aircraft guns and what were probably close in weapons systems (CIWS) to protect against cruise missile strikes were observed on Hughes and Gaven reefs while Fiery Cross Reef showed evidence of radar towers. They stated that while covers had been installed on the towers at Fiery Cross, the size of the platforms indicate systems similar to those at the smaller reefs.

AMTI determined, “These gun and probable CIWS emplacements show that Beijing is serious about defense of its artificial islands in case of an armed contingency in the South China Sea. Among other things, they would be the last line of defense against cruise missiles launched by the United States or others against these soon-to-be-operational air bases.”

AMTI director Greg Poling said AMTI has been trying for months to determine the purposes of the structures being built on the islands. “This is the first time that we’re confident in saying they are anti-aircraft and CIWS emplacements. We did not know that they had systems this big and this advanced there.”

He added, “This is militarization. The Chinese can argue that it’s only for defensive purposes, but if you are building giant anti-aircraft gun and CIWS emplacements, it means that you are prepping for a future conflict.

“They keep saying they are not militarizing, but they could deploy fighter jets and surface-to-air missiles tomorrow if they wanted to. Now they have all the infrastructure in place for these interlocking rings of defense and power projection.”

AMTI found the installations would serve as a likely back up to a defensive umbrella provided by a future deployment of mobile surface-to-air missile (SAM) platforms like the HQ-9 system deployed to Woody Island in the Paracel Islands, farther to the north in the South China Sea. That deployment could be happening now or at any time. Fox News reported that the components for SAM systems have been seen in the Chinese port of Jieyang, with a probably destination of the South China Sea.

In response to the seizing of territory belonging to other nations and the construction of weapons systems on them, Hussein Obama and Congress offered some of the typical “bad China, don’t do that again,” empty rhetoric and have made periodic passes through the area by air and sea.

Just keep blabbing, Congress and Obama, about the hacking that never happened as these sea lanes come under Chinese hegemony. The establishment politicians are running cover for Chinese aggression and all they have to do is put forward a ridiculous hacking story. There had to be a distraction with the election and the recount now over. The shiny object for now is Russia.

  1. Is the U.S. designated as the official watchdog over the South China Sea? Who was it that granted the designation. I must have missed it.
