Jason Chaffetz has been critical of AG Jeff Sessions and the memo from Intel Committee Chairman Nunes just adds to the fire. It must be released and the dirty cops at DOJ and FBI
Lou Dobbs and former House Oversight Committee Chairman and Congressman Jason Chaffetz discuss the Devin Nunes memo that is still classified but is reported to contain horrendous revelations of misconduct at DOJ and the FBI.
Dobbs plays a clip of Rep Brad Wenstrup (R-OH), who as a member of the Intelligence Committee, has seen the memo, describing it by quoting Abraham Lincoln, saying “We’re testing whether this nation or any nation so conceived can long endure.”
He says, “If we don’t correct our wrongs, if we the people don’t have oversight and the people don’t get to have oversight with us as members of Congress, then that’s a problem.” He asks, “How are we ever going to develop trust if we can’t be frank with the American people?”
Dobbs says that he believes the Schumer shutdown of the government may well have as much to do with creating a diversion from the four page memo of Rep Nunes, an indictment of the corrupt DOJ and FBI under Obama that continues to this day, as anything else.
In calling for the release of the memo to the American people, Chaffetz says, “It’s only four pages. Every member of the house, on both sides of the aisle, they have a security clearance. They ought to go in and read it. Then there will come a point where I think Devin Nunes can call for a vote to have it released.”
Chaffetz says he’s been told that it does contain some classified information and that proper care must be exercise, pointing out that those who are seen on camera after they have read the memo, such as Mark Meadows and Wenstrup, are “visibly disturbed” by it. He notes that they are “seasoned people who’ve seen a lot of stuff” but it still got to them. [[VIDEO BELOW]]
Chaffetz says, “The other question that I don’t hear anybody asking is, ‘What is the Department of Justice and the Attorney General doing about it? You don’t need a House panel to uncover this. We know there’s an Inspector General report, that’ll be pivotal. But what is the Attorney General himself doing because they can’t just walk away from this.”
Dobbs reminds his audience that Chaffetz is among those who have called for Sessions to either start acting like an Attorney General or resign. Dobbs says, “It’s an open question as to what the heck he is doing and how much progress is being made if he is working. So you raised, I think, an absolutely pertinent question and one that does need answering.”
Dobbs continues, “But for that matter, the entire odor that surrounds the top echelons of our Justice Department and the FBI, is such a stench now, even over that swamp that you used to work in, that I think we have to have a house cleaning no matter what.
Chaffetz says they’ve lost the trust of the American people and “the only way to get that back is to have an Attorney General who can go in and fix the systemic problems within a very broken agency.
