We have to expect that ABC “News” will have a leftist, anti-Trump slant to it. In their report on President Trump’s visit to CIA headquarters, they made it perfectly clear, from the title of the piece until they finished discussing the topic.
The anchor says of his visit, “That face to face encounter today, an about face for Mr. Trump after his public clashes with the intelligence community.” Those public clashes were with two individuals, Director of National Intelligence James Clapper and CIA Director John Brennan. Both are political appointments by Obama who were perceived by many as being more loyal to the regime and their careers within it than to the American people.
Clapper was caught in 2013 lying to Senator Ron Wyden, a fellow Democrat under oath. He testified that the NSA does not “wittingly” collect any kind of data at all, later proven to be blatantly untrue. It was done with the forehand knowledge that the question was going to be asked, making it a premeditated and deliberate act.
Brennan was widely believed to be a Muslim convert who promoted Islamic causes in his position and who, in doing so, could have been willing to modify intelligence and assessments. Such practices of intelligence manipulation were known to have been cultivated at CENTCOM by the Obama regime, so there is justifiable cause for suspicion. He was also very close to Hussein Obama and was believed by some to have concluded the Russians were involved in hacking in support of the narrative that Obama and the Democrats wanted to advance.
To say Trump was at odds with the “intelligence community” because of a realization of the type of individuals he was dealing with in those two instances and refusing to allow himself to be misled is an inaccurate and unfair depiction of the situation. Dr. Sebastian Gorka described the rift and the lack of confidence in the legitimacy of the assessments from the CIA. He noted particularly as they related to the unsubstantiated “Russian hacks” and the “Russian Bedroom dossier,” as their being caused by the leadership of Clapper and Brennan and the first tier of career service people below them. There was also an illegitimate hit piece that the CIA is believed to have leaked.
CNN noted in a report on the Trump visit: “The CIA audience was separated into two sections: a main area of all agency staff and a separate section directly in front of the stage that consisted of senior agency leadership, including agents. During Trump’s address, the senior leadership stood the entire time. When Trump began drifting into political topics, the main crowd broke into cheers and applause at points. The senior leadership remained stoic, and did not applaud the political lines.” Some of those individuals in the stoic, senior leadership group are likely the ones that Mr. Trump may have difficulty trusting the veracity of their information. They may still harbor resentment at being questioned or loyalties to the outgoing leadership. Those members of the rank and file now know that President Trump values them and is aware of the job they do. They also may now be aware that his beef of the past and to whatever extent it might continue, is not with them.
President Trump took it upon himself to make the gesture to demonstrate to all of the people of the CIA their importance to America and to him. He can only go to one place first and he chose the CIA. For ABC “News” to refer to it as an about face ignores the fact that the previous leadership is now no longer in place and he is now their President. Those are two hugely significant changes in the situation which can’t help but play a role in how things proceed.
