Secretary of State John Kerry proclaims “An urgent need to counter the poisonous propaganda and gross distortion of Islam that ISIL is spreading far and wide.” He says, “It is time to put an end to a group so extreme in its rejection of modernity, that it bans math and social studies for children.
Kerry drones on saying, “It is time to put an end to the sermons by extremists that brain wash young men to join these terrorist groups and commit mass atrocities in the name of God. “
He adds, “This is something the leaders in the region are very focused on. Saudi Arabia’s top clerics this week came out publicly and declared terrorism a heinous crime under Sharia Law and called ISIL in particular, the order of Satan.”
As a Democrat, Kerry is allowed to practice expedient revisionism, and he might choose to ignore the role that Saudi Arabia played in creating the ISIS beast. A more objective evaluation was provided in a PBS Frontline report which had this to say about the relationship between radical Islamic extremism and Saudi Arabia:
For more than two centuries, Wahhabism has been Saudi Arabia’s dominant faith. It is an austere form of Islam that insists on a literal interpretation of the Koran. Strict Wahhabis believe that all those who don’t practice their form of Islam are heathens and enemies. Critics say that Wahhabism’s rigidity has led it to misinterpret and distort Islam, pointing to extremists such as Osama bin Laden and the Taliban. Wahhabism’s explosive growth began in the 1970s when Saudi charities started funding Wahhabi schools (madrassas) and mosques from Islamabad to Culver City, California.
The message upon which Kerry partially bases his assessment is one that was issued on Wednesday by Saudi Arabia’s highest body of religious scholars. They declared terrorism to be a “heinous crime” and decreed that those so engaged deserved to be punished in accordance with Islamic law. The declaration was accompanied by a religious edit, a fatwa, to track down ISIS and al-Qaeda members and punish them.
Last month a proclamation was issued by Saudi Arabia’s Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdulaziz Al al-Sheikh in which he labeled ISIS and al-Qaeda as “kharijite,” the embodiment of heresy.
The practice of Saudi State condemnation of a State practice is a recent development, a result of concern on the part of the ruling Saud family that their own spawn of hatred and brutality, which they fomented for use upon others might now somehow find its way back to target them.
While the official message has suddenly morphed into one of moderation, the actions and sentiments of a large percentage of Saudi society remain unchanged and are consistent with the ISIS actions and proclamations. Many key religious figures also preach a similar intolerance and policy of strict Sharia Law in line with the ISIS radicalism and interpretations.
Kerry’s references to ISIS not permitting the teaching of math or social studies are meaningless and almost amusing, making him look foolish. America doesn’t engage in military action against regimes which practice forced illiteracy. There is no international requirement for modernity either.
As far as Kerry, Hussein Obama, the Saudis or anyone else being able to stifle what is being practiced as religious speech, it’s not going to happen. Just as America’s domestic threat has gotten exponentially worse through the Obama regime opening our borders to terrorists, silencing an evil message which should have never been promoted in the first place and has now reaped its fruit is an extremely difficult proposition.
The Saudi’s have created a huge problem for themselves, their neighbors, the American people and the world. There are ripe, available and important targets in Syria. America needs to demonstrate to ISIS and our allies that we are serious. What is the real reason Hussein Obama is dragging his feet?
