It’s official, what the government describes as “Arab extremists” have been traversing the US – Mexico border with relative impunity for years, well over a decade, assisted by Mexican drug cartels and their associated smuggling networks.
According to Judicial Watch, who recently obtained the information through FOIA requests, the documents provide US State Department confirmation of the travels of one particular al-Qaeda leader, Adnan G. El Shukrijumah, also known as Javier Robles. Some of the information was contained in a September 2004 cable.
The heavily redacted State Department documents show that Shukrijumah was killed in 2014 in South Waziristan by the Pakistan Army. Prior to his death Robles had assisted in the planning of several attacks against American targets, including a bomb plot to blow up the Chicago studios of Oprah Winfrey. He was also involved in other plots to detonate nuclear devices in several American cities.
The fact that al-Qaeda was engaged in plots against American targets is nothing new. The ability of the plotters to freely enter the United States is troubling but not something that was unexpected, given the inexplicable lax enforcement policies of the open borders Obama regime and Homeland “Security” Secretary Johnson. The documentation does provide confirmation of what has been widely suspected.
They note that for years, even as he appeared atop the FBI’s most wanted list, Shukrijumah was able to transit back and forth across the US border at will. He met with fellow Islamists in Texas and even once flew an aircraft in to the Cielo Dorado airfield in Anthony, New Mexico.
State Department records indicate that US authorities were aware that Shukrijumah was in Mexico due to the efforts of the Regional Security Office at the consulate in Ciudad Juarez, just across the border from El Paso, Texas. They used newspapers to distribute information throughout the Mexican states of Sonora and Chihuahua “at the request of the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force in El Paso.”
Judicial Watch revealed that the Information regarding the movement of Middle Eastern terrorists into the United States through Mexico was a topic of a now declassified 2004 cable titled “CONFIDENTIAL INFORMANT, A PROVEN CI TO USG IN THE PAST, REPORTS ARAB CELLS WITHIN MEXICO.”
Describing their source as “reliable,” the cable details that information was provided to the US Consulate in Ciudad Juarez that Arab extremists had been smuggled into the US through the Mexican border. It stated, “The confidential source (SUBJECT) stated his family member, who is a human trafficker, knows the exact whereabouts of three Arabs who are currently being hidden in Agua Prieta, Sonora, Mexico. Although not absolutely positive, one of the three is likely Adnan G. El Shukrijumah, alleged to be a Saudi Arabian terrorist cell leader thought to be in Mexico. SUBJECT also provided information on two smuggling networks, “cells,” that specialize in providing logistical support for Arab individuals attempting to enter the United States.” The fact that human trafficking cells are able to specialize in Arab terrorists indicates a substantial volume, one that would justify it from a business standpoint.
While the specific roles played by Shukrijumah have not been completely ascertained, some history as a confidential informant is revealed. He fled the U.S. four months prior to the 9/11 attacks of 2001 and appears to have subsequently participated in plots to blow up apartment buildings using natural gas explosions with convicted terrorist Jose Padilla. He was also convicted of plotting to attack multiple targets in the US and UK, including the New York subway system.
Among the notable US targets was a terrorist truck bomb plot against Oprah Winfrey’s Harpo Studio and the Sears Tower. Two of his co-conspirators, Emad Karakrah and Hector Pedroza Huerta—were arrested in 2014 for unrelated state crimes in different parts of the country and received unusual plea deals. Their cases revealed strong connections between terrorists and narco-terrorist organizations.
