Congressman Jason Chaffetz (R-UT) will take over the chairmanship of the House Oversight and Government Reform committee from Darrell Issa, who could no longer chair because of term limit restraints.
While Rep Trey Gowdy is heading a special committee investigating the Benghazi incident specifically, Chaffetz has some questions of his own he’d like to have answered that are not solely related to Benghazi.
Rep Chaffetz said on Tuesday that his committee will be investigating embassy security in general under the former Secretary of State and changes that she made to protocols. He indicated it was likely that she would be called as a witness during those hearings.
Previous to Clinton taking over, a system developed by former Secretary of State Colin Powell was in place and working effectively. When Clinton took over, she changed all of that and not for the better.
Not sounding like one who would defer to Clinton’s political stature, Chaffetz said Clinton “Changed the way we do embassy security and how we build the infrastructure there and she created a mess. It’s a disaster!”
When asked specifically if Clinton would be called to testify, Chaffetz said, “I’m not going to rule that out.”
From the tone of his comments it seems unlikely that Clinton, if called to testify, will enjoy the same admiration and softball questions followed by filibustering that she experienced with John McCain and others in the Senate. She needs to be held accountable for decisions she made which appear to have been ill-advised at best.
