Not being a Democrat is synonymous with being a racist by the way they distort the truth and then redefine it. It’s a charge they’ll reflexively level at anyone as a deliberate smear tactic, particularly when they have nothing else with which to attack them. Senator Jeff Sessions is one such individual, a man of the utmost integrity, without any racism in his composition whatsoever. Chuck Schumer knows Senator Sessions well and he knows that to be the case. It doesn’t matter, politics is much higher on the priority list for Schumer and the Democrats. Honesty or their own integrity barely make an appearance.
Judge Napolitano says there are two issues in play. One, whether Senator Sessions is a racist, and the other whether or not Senator Schumer is simply “doing this for political consumption, to stimulate the left-wing base of the Democrat Party, what remains of it, because of their objection to having a true-blue, died in the wool conservative Republican like Jeff Sessions run the Justice Department.”
“He apparently did make insensitive statements in his youth,” says Napolitano, “some thirty years ago, he’s now sixty-nine-years old. Since that time he’s been in the Senate for over 20 years. There’s not a single public or private statement to which Senator Schumer can point in the past 25 or 30 years out of the mouth of Jeff Sessions that would disqualify him from this position.”
Describing what he believes the process will look like, Judge Napolitano says, “The Senate Judiciary Committee, of which he is now currently a sitting member, will interrogate him and the Republicans will point out all of the things he did to advance the cause of racial equality as the Attorney General of Alabama, when some people thought he was a Democrat because he pursued the Ku Klux Klan with such zeal.”
Judge Napolitano notes that Senator Sessions worked with Rudy Giuliani when he was the US Attorney for Alabama and Giuliani was number three in the Justice Department. He says, “Look, he’s going to be confirmed and Schumer knows it. I’m a little disappointed that the master deal maker himself, Chuck Schumer, instead of cutting a deal with the other master deal maker which is about to become the President, has decided to throw down the gauntlet in something where he’s determined to lose.”
Napolitano adds, “This was so long ago, and has not infiltrated his public work at all, even back in that era, that Schumer knows that this is just a political move on his part.
