Katherine Herridge – Guccifer Plea Deal Indicates Clinton Prosecution Probable
Katherine Herridge is confident that the plea deal agreed to by the Romanian hacker “Guccifer” is a strong indicator that the information he holds will be used in the prosecution of Hillary Clinton. Herridge was in the courtroom during his hearing in which he pled guilty to two counts, one of unauthorized access of a protected computer and a second of aggravated identity theft. His potential sentence will range between two and seven years and a fine of approximately $250,000. That is much less than what he faced without the agreement and illustrates the degree to which the government values his testimony.
Herridge describes the key section of the agreement being one that relates to his cooperation with the US government. She says, “It’s very extensive and it says that the hacker will cooperate in grand jury testimony and in further investigations and in debriefs by US authorities and he also agrees to be polygraphed at a sort of 24 hour, 7 days a week basis, at the decision of the US government.
She adds, “What’s important about that cooperating piece is that you typically see that in conspiracy cases, not in cases involving computer hacking. So when they crafted this deal and he agreed, there is an expectation that in the future he will remain in Virginia and he will be available to the FBI as well as the US Attorney in any ongoing investigations.”
Herridge points out that her reporting has shown that there is an interface with the Clinton email investigation by the FBI. She clarifies, saying of Guccifer, “He basically today has agreed to fully cooperate with the US government and if he does not fully cooperate, in issues that are beyond the plea agreement, then he will lose the agreement altogether. But this is highly unusual for a hacker to be brought to the United States when he has not finished his sentence, with this very specific intersection with the ongoing FBI criminal investigation. It is not a coincidence and today we saw that laid out in the finding of facts and the plea deal.”
Bernie Sanders may have a shot at the Democrat nomination after all.
