It was hard to believe that the FBI would agree, as part of an unnecessary plea deal for evidence that they could have quite easily just demanded through subpoena, to destroy the source laptops upon the completion of their very limited examination.
What was an obvious instance of destruction of evidence to a lay person was apparently just as obvious to the career FBI investigators. The agents conducting the investigation were instructed to destroy the laptops afterwards and they refused. Fortunately for the cause of American justice, nobody else stepped forward to fill that void.
The Republicans in Congress, used to and quite comfortable with doing nothing, never bothered to verify that the destruction had actually taken place. When they learned of the agreement, they simply assumed that it had and did so in error.
In a Friday interview on the David Webb show on SiriusXM radio, Washington D.C. attorney Joe DiGenova revealed the information. The laptops in question belonged to Clinton aide and attorney Cheryl Mills and former campaign staffer Heather Samuelson.
DiGenova said, “According to the agreement reached with the attorneys who handed over their laptops, the laptops were to be destroyed per the agreement after the testimony was given –the interviews were given – – by the attorneys. The bureau and the department agreed to that,” DiGenova said. “However the laptops contrary to published reports were not destroyed and the reason is the agents who are tasked with destroying them refused to do so. And by the way the laptops are at the FBI for inspection by Congress or federal courts.”
DiGenova added that the laptops have already been subpoenaed, that the FBI is just waiting for Congress to ask for them. More thorough, prompt action by our elected representatives. Did anyone tell them that there’s an election approaching in which this criminal is on the ballot?
DiGenova said, “When I found out last Sunday that those laptops — by the way from somebody who is involved in the investigation by the FBI– had not been destroyed contrary to published reports, I could not believe that the Republicans had not gotten their hands on them even yet.” he said.
He added, “And it is quite clear from the tenor of the letter of what the director sent that there is in fact classified information on some of those devices.” he added. DiGenova acknowledged that the time constraints will play a role in what is learned prior to the election. He does not believe that Comey will be able to resolve the issue prior to the election. Then again, both sides claim to want the information to be released. That’s the first thing they’ve agreed on in months. Why not do it, let the American people see what Clinton is hiding from them.
